Shintora Street is the main street that connect the main stadium to the athletes' village in Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics 2020. TABISURU Market's Summer and Autumn term starts July 3rd. The painter Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita was born in Japan in the middle of the Meiji period, but subsequently became a prominent member of the École de Paris, the group of emigré artists who made their home in Paris in the first part of the 20th century. This exhibition provides a major retrospective of Foujita's entire artistic career through a chronological display of major works including landscapes, portraits, nudes, and religious themes on the 50th anniversary of his death.

This exhibition, a comprehensive 30-year survey, which includes an abundance of Araki's original hand-drawn pictures, traces important developments and the history of the work in a diverse range of displays limited to this event.

During the Middle Ages, Buddhist monks from Japan and China crossed the seas on merchant vessels and built close relationships with each other. They appreciated and critiqued paintings and added poetic inscriptions to them, giving rise to magnificent works combining poetry and painting. This exhibition introduces a variety of writings and ink paintings born of the exchanges cultivated by Zen monks.

The longest established jeweller on the exclusive Place Vendôme in Paris, Chaumet has shaped the face of elegance since its creation in 1780. Chaumet has continuously strived to balance tradition and innovation, with many of its creations now considered master pieces of decorative arts. This exhibition will feature about 300 pieces of jewellery including diamond tiaras and necklaces, as well as heritage drawings and photographs that have never before been on display.

Gordon Matta-Clark was active mainly in New York in the 1970s. Despite his death, he has continued to attract many followers in various fields including art, architecture, street culture and food. Folding Screens of "Famous Views of Edo" and the Lures of the Colorful City

One of the paintings that captured the prosperity of Edo, "Famous Views of Edo" is an important piece which reveals the appearance of the city prior to the Fire of Meireki 3 (1657). In the painting, we can observe people at work, enjoying the pleasure quarters, and the richly depicted scenes of everyday life. This exhibition features these colorful folding screens, designated as the Important Cultural Property in 2015, together with other pieces taking Edo as theme.

Japan is blessed with abundant water resources, and water is a constant presence in life and art, expressed in many ways. This exhibition brings together depictions of water from Japanese prints and paintings, from Edo period ukiyo-e to modern and contemporary nihonga.

From picnic meals to our daily lunchbox, the bento (a Japanese-style meal-in-a-box) is part of the fabric of everyday life in Japan. This exhibition looks at the bento from the communication design angle, providing a setting in which people can experience and discover for themselves the appeal of this Japanese food culture that brings people together. Exhibits range from bento boxes with unique designs dating from the Edo period, to video works, installations, and participatory artworks by contemporary artists.

Within the music, familiar to our everyday life, is a combination of elements; layers of tone, sonic range and rhythm form a densely designed structure - an architecture. Musician Keigo Oyamada (Cornelius) has written a new music with a focus on its structure exclusivery for this exhibition; it is interpreted from the varying perspectives of spirited creators into disparate video works. Come and discover a fresh perspective on music in the venue integrating sound, video and space.

Ryuji Fujimura:The Form of Knowledge ――The Prototype of Architectural Thinking and Its Application

Place: TOTO GALLERY・MA(TOTO Nogizaka Bldg. 3F, 1-24-3 Minami-Aoyama)
Ryuji Fujimura has been developing his work using an original design method that he calls the “super linear design process”, where he reflects the various project requirements in initially simple forms one by one through comparing and studying a large number of building models. This exhibition will present Fujimura’s ideas and work through focusing on the form-making processes underlying his projects. Featured will be more than 300 models that were made towards developing projects such as the OM TERRACE, chairs designed by having AI (artificial intelligence) study thousands of images, and time-lapse recordings of the construction work.
