A large scale exhibition introducing and showcasing the life of artist/painter Katsushika Hokusai. Not only are the masterpieces and valued items and works assembled from Japan and overseas, but the works rediscovered in recent years will be presented as well - approximately 480 valuable works to total will be showcased. Hokusai's works from his debut work at the age of 20 years until he put down his brush at the age of 90 years, this exhibition presents spanning Hokusai's long career. In 1925, Soetsu Yanagi first named handicrafts made by anonymous craftspeople "MINGEI," as he recognized the beauty in these everyday items used by common people. The exhibition will feature over 150 traditional and contemporary MINGEI items primarily from the Japan Folk Crafts Museum's collection selected by Naoto Fukasawa, the Director of both 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT and the Museum.
