A large scale exhibition introducing and showcasing the life of artist/painter Katsushika Hokusai. Not only are the masterpieces and valued items and works assembled from Japan and overseas, but the works rediscovered in recent years will be presented as well - approximately 480 valuable works to total will be showcased. Hokusai's works from his debut work at the age of 20 years until he put down his brush at the age of 90 years, this exhibition presents spanning Hokusai's long career.

MINGEI - Another Kind of Art

In 1925, Soetsu Yanagi first named handicrafts made by anonymous craftspeople "MINGEI," as he recognized the beauty in these everyday items used by common people. The exhibition will feature over 150 traditional and contemporary MINGEI items primarily from the Japan Folk Crafts Museum's collection selected by Naoto Fukasawa, the Director of both 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT and the Museum.

In my life I ignore the past and I ignore the future. I live in the present, exploding, moment by moment― Neither clinging to the past nor presuming upon the future. The way that Tarō Okamoto lived, perfectly embodies JAZZ. You will witness an unexpected encounter between Okamoto's paintings and jazz through the medium of sound in this exhibiiton.

Johannes Vermeer, the Dutch Golden Age master along with Rembrandt, also known for the unprolific painter. Of Vermeer's 35 surviving works, 9 have been brought to the museum to make this exhibition the largest showing of his work in Japan.

One of the biggest Ice skate rink in Tokyo, a capacity of 200 people, appears in Tokyo Midtown from 7th of January. Not only the day time skating, but also the night time romantic skating surrounded by the gorgeous illumination is available. Also visitors can join the skating school for family.
